How We Research and Write
Urban Micro Tips is edited by Elena Verde, who has been testing renter-friendly living setups since 2013. Every guide is written from direct experience in real apartments — not from press releases, manufacturer claims, or AI-generated summaries.
Our research process for each guide:
- Primary testing: Methods are tested in real small-space apartments before being recommended. Where personal testing is not possible, we source verified third-party data (peer-reviewed studies, manufacturer spec sheets, or independent lab reviews).
- Fact-checking: Technical claims (balcony weight limits, plant toxicity, product specs) are cross-referenced against at least two independent sources before publication.
- Renter-safety check: Every recommendation is reviewed for deposit risk — any tip that could cause permanent damage to a rental property is flagged or excluded.
Who Writes and Reviews Content
Elena Verde writes and edits the majority of content on Urban Micro Tips. Her background is in environmental science, with 10+ years of applied experience in balcony gardening, zero-waste apartment living, and renter-friendly home solutions across multiple cities in Europe.
Guest contributors are occasionally invited for specialist topics (structural engineering, specific plant species, regional regulations). All contributed content is reviewed and edited by Elena Verde before publication.
How We Choose Topics
Topics are selected based on three criteria:
- Renter relevance: the topic addresses a genuine constraint of rented apartment living (no permanent changes, limited space, shared buildings)
- Practical applicability: the guide produces a specific, actionable outcome — not general advice
- Gap in existing resources: existing guides are either too generic (homeowners), too commercial (brand-sponsored), or assume resources most renters don’t have

Affiliate relationships do not influence which products are recommended — products are selected for their fit with renter needs, then checked for affiliate availability, not the other way around.

Accuracy and Updates
